1) 泛指孩子所受的一切的訓練及教育(指其文化中教養和道德觀的形成, 明白當代的律令和訓誡,   
   及責備懲處等), 亦包括對肉體的訓練和保養   
2) 指對成人滋養其靈性成長的任何事, 尤其指對過犯的改正和慾望的節制.   
   2a) 以修養德性為目的的教導   
   2b) 懲罰, 懲戒 (指神為了人的改善而對其本性中邪惡部分所採取的作為)

   correcting mistakes and curbing passions. 
   2a) instruction which aims at increasing virtue 
   2b) chastisement, chastening, (of the evils with which God 
       visits men for their amendment)
