[big5] 以色列人起行，在摩押平原、約但河東，對著耶利哥安營。
[bbe] Then the children of Israel, journeying on, put up their tents in the lowlands of Moab, on the other side of Jordan at Jericho.
[big5] 以色列人向亞摩利人所行的一切事，西撥的兒子巴勒都看見了。
[bbe] Now Balak, the son of Zippor, saw what Israel had done to the Amorites.
[big5] 摩押人因以色列民甚多，就大大懼怕，心內憂急，
[bbe] And in Moab there was great fear of the people, because their numbers were so great: and the feeling of Moab was bitter against the children of Israel.
[big5] 對米甸的長老說：現在這眾人要把我們四圍所有的一概餂盡，就如牛餂盡田間的草一般。那時西撥的兒子巴勒作摩押王。
[bbe] Then Moab said to the responsible men of Midian, It is clear that this great people will be the destruction of everything round us, making a meal of us as the ox does of the grass of the field. At that time Balak, the son of Zippor, was king of Moab.
[big5] 他差遣使者往大河邊的毘奪去，到比珥的兒子巴蘭本鄉那裡，召巴蘭來，說：有一宗民從埃及出來，遮滿地面，與我對居。
[bbe] So he sent men to Balaam, son of Beor, at Pethor by the River in the land of the children of his people, saying to him, See, a people has come out of Egypt, covering all the face of the earth, and they have put up their tents opposite to me:
[big5] 這民比我強盛，現在求你來為我咒詛他們，或者我能得勝，攻打他們，趕出此地。因為我知道，你為誰祝福，誰就得福；你咒詛誰，誰就受咒詛。
[bbe] Come now, in answer to my prayer, and put a curse on this people, for they are greater than I: and then I may be strong enough to overcome them and send them out of the land: for it is clear that good comes to him who has your blessing, but he on whom you put your curse is cursed.
[big5] 摩押的長老和米甸的長老手裡拿著卦金，到了巴蘭那裡，將巴勒的話都告訴了他。
[bbe] So the responsible men of Moab and Midian went away, taking in their hands rewards for the prophet; and they came to Balaam and said to him what Balak had given them orders to say.
[big5] 巴蘭說：你們今夜在這裡住宿，我必照耶和華所曉諭我的回報你們。摩押的使臣就在巴蘭那裡住下了。
[bbe] And he said to them, Take your rest here tonight, and I will give you an answer after hearing what the Lord says; so the chiefs of Moab kept there with Balaam that night.
[big5] 神臨到巴蘭那裡，說：在你這裡的人都是誰？
[bbe] And God came to Balaam and said, Who are these men with you?
[big5] 巴蘭回答說：是摩押王西撥的兒子巴勒打發人到我這裡來，說：
[bbe] And Balaam said to God, Balak, the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent them to me, saying,
[big5] 從埃及出來的民遮滿地面，你來為我咒詛他們，或者我能與他們爭戰，把他們趕出去。
[bbe] See, the people who have come out of Egypt are covering all the earth: now, put a curse on this people for me, so that I may be able to make war on them, driving them out of the land.
[big5] 神對巴蘭說：你不可同他們去，也不可咒詛那民，因為那民是蒙福的。
[bbe] And God said to Balaam, You are not to go with them, or put a curse on this people, for they have my blessing.
[big5] 巴蘭早晨起來，對巴勒的使臣說：你們回本地去吧，因為耶和華不容我和你們同去。
[bbe] In the morning Balaam got up and said to the chiefs of Balak, Go back to your land, for the Lord will not let me go with you.
[big5] 摩押的使臣就起來，回巴勒那裡去，說：巴蘭不肯和我們同來。
[bbe] So the chiefs of Moab went back to Balak and said, Balaam will not come with us.
[big5] 巴勒又差遣使臣，比先前的又多又尊貴。
[bbe] So Balak sent more chiefs, greater in number and of higher position than the others.
[big5] 他們到了巴蘭那裡，對他說：西撥的兒子巴勒這樣說：求你不容什麼事攔阻你不到我這裡來，
[bbe] And they came to Balaam and said, Balak, son of Zippor, says, Let nothing keep you from coming to me:
[big5] 因為我必使你得極大的尊榮。你向我要什麼，我就給你什麼；只求你來為我咒詛這民。
[bbe] For I will give you a place of very great honour, and whatever you say to me I will do; so come, in answer to my prayer, and put a curse on this people.
[big5] 巴蘭回答巴勒的臣僕說：巴勒就是將他滿屋的金銀給我，我行大事小事也不得越過耶和華─我神的命。
[bbe] But Balaam, in answer; said to the servants of Balak, Even if Balak gave me his house full of silver and gold, it would not be possible for me to do anything more or less than the orders of the Lord my God.
[big5] 現在我請你們今夜在這裡住宿，等我得知耶和華還要對我說什麼。
[bbe] So take your rest here this night, till I have knowledge what more the Lord has to say to me.
[big5] 當夜，神臨到巴蘭那裡，說：這些人若來召你，你就起來同他們去，你只要遵行我對你所說的話。
[bbe] And that night God came to Balaam and said to him, If these men have come for you, go with them: but do only what I say to you.
[big5] 巴蘭早晨起來，備上驢，和摩押的使臣一同去了。
[bbe] So in the morning Balaam got up and, making his ass ready, went with the chiefs of Moab.
[big5] 神因他去就發了怒；耶和華的使者站在路上敵擋他。他騎著驢，有兩個僕人跟隨他。
[bbe] But God was moved to wrath because he went: and the angel of the Lord took up a position in the road to keep him from his purpose. Now he was seated on his ass, and his two servants were with him.
[big5] 驢看見耶和華的使者站在路上，手裡有拔出來的刀，就從路上跨進田間，巴蘭便打驢，要叫他回轉上路。
[bbe] And the ass saw the angel of the Lord waiting in the road with his sword in his hand; and turning from the road, the ass went into the field; and Balaam gave the ass blows, to get her back on to the road.
[big5] 耶和華的使者就站在葡萄園的窄路上；這邊有牆，那邊也有牆。
[bbe] Then the angel of the Lord took up his position in a narrow road through the vine-gardens, with a wall on this side and on that.
[big5] 驢看見耶和華的使者，就貼靠牆，將巴蘭的腳擠傷了；巴蘭又打驢。
[bbe] And the ass saw the angel of the Lord, and went near the wall, crushing Balaam's foot against the wall; and he gave her more blows.
[big5] 耶和華的使者又往前去，站在狹窄之處，左右都沒有轉折的地方。
[bbe] Then the angel of the Lord went further, stopping in a narrow place where there was no room for turning to the right or to the left.
[big5] 驢看見耶和華的使者，就臥在巴蘭底下，巴蘭發怒，用杖打驢。
[bbe] And the ass saw the angel of the Lord and went down on the earth under Balaam; and full of wrath, Balaam gave her hard blows with his stick.
[big5] 耶和華叫驢開口，對巴蘭說：我向你行了什麼，你竟打我這三次呢？
[bbe] Then the Lord gave the ass the power of talking, and opening her mouth she said to Balaam, What have I done to you that you have given me blows these three times?
[big5] 巴蘭對驢說：因為你戲弄我，我恨不能手中有刀，把你殺了。
[bbe] And Balaam said to the ass, You have made me seem foolish: if only I had a sword in my hand I would put you to death.
[big5] 驢對巴蘭說：我不是你從小時直到今日所騎的驢嗎？我素常向你這樣行過嗎？巴蘭說：沒有。
[bbe] And the ass said to Balaam, Am I not your ass upon which you have gone all your life till this day? and have I ever done this to you before? And he said, No.
[big5] 當時，耶和華使巴蘭的眼目明亮，他就看見耶和華的使者站在路上，手裡有拔出來的刀，巴蘭便低頭俯伏在地。
[bbe] Then the Lord made Balaam's eyes open, and he saw the angel of the Lord in the way with his sword in his hand: and he went down on his face to the earth.
[big5] 耶和華的使者對他說：你為何這三次打你的驢呢？我出來敵擋你，因你所行的，在我面前偏僻。
[bbe] And the angel of the Lord said to him, Why have you given your ass blows these three times? See, I have come out against you to keep you back, because your purpose is not pleasing to me.
[big5] 驢看見我就三次從我面前偏過去；驢若沒有偏過去，我早把你殺了，留他存活。
[bbe] And the ass saw me, turning to one side from me three times: if she had not gone to one side, I would certainly have put you to death and kept her safe.
[big5] 巴蘭對耶和華的使者說：我有罪了。我不知道你站在路上阻擋我；你若不喜歡我去，我就轉回。
[bbe] And Balaam said to the angel of the Lord, I have done wrong, for I did not see that you were in the way against me: but now, if it is evil in your eyes, I will go back again.
[big5] 耶和華的使者對巴蘭說：你同這些人去吧！你只要說我對你說的話。於是巴蘭同著巴勒的使臣去了。
[bbe] And the angel of the Lord said to Balaam, Go with the men; but say only what I give you to say. Then Balaam went on with the chiefs of Balak.
[big5] 巴勒聽見巴蘭來了，就往摩押京城去迎接他；這城是在邊界上，在亞嫩河旁。
[bbe] Now Balak, hearing that Balaam had come, went to the chief town of Moab, on the edge of the Arnon, in the farthest part of the land, for the purpose of meeting him.
[big5] 巴勒對巴蘭說：我不是急急地打發人到你那裡去召你嗎？你為何不到我這裡來呢？我豈不能使你得尊榮嗎？
[bbe] And Balak said to Balaam, Did I not send to you, requesting you with all my heart to come to me? why did you not come? am I not able to give you a place of honour?
[big5] 巴蘭說：我已經到你這裡來了！現在我豈能擅自說什麼呢？神將什麼話傳給我，我就說什麼。
[bbe] Then Balaam said to Balak, Now I have come to you; but have I power to say anything? Only what God puts into my mouth may I say.
[big5] 巴蘭和巴勒同行，來到基列胡瑣。
[bbe] And Balaam went with Balak to Kiriath-huzoth.
[big5] 巴勒宰了（原文作獻）牛羊，送給巴蘭和陪伴的使臣。
[bbe] And Balak made offerings of oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam and the chiefs who were with him.
[big5] 到了早晨，巴勒領巴蘭到巴力的高處；巴蘭從那裡觀看以色列營的邊界。
[bbe] And in the morning Balak took Balaam up to the high places of Baal, and from there he was able to see the outer limits of the people.
